I’ve been getting lots of questions lately about how I got started with my Instagram and Blog, so I decided to finally share with you how everything started and my life changing story with you’ll 🙂
THE OLD SHEINA
Growing up I was always a tall “skinny” girl. I started playing volleyball when I was 8-years old and my life was always about volleyball practices, laps around the gym, workouts, agility trainings, and tournaments. LOVED every second of it!
Even though I was an athlete for almost my entire life, my eating habits were not the best. Cookies, soda, candy and fried foods were big part of my daily eating routine. The years went by and in 2009 I received a full-schorlaship to come play college volleyball in a Junior College in Liberal, KS. When I first arrived in the United States I was overwhelmed by all the food options, and how much cheaper they were compared to Brazil. Even practicing 5 days a week for approximatly 3 hours a day, by end of November I had gained a little over 10 LBS (can’t remember for sure).
After realizing I had lost control and that I was eating way to much, I started to appeal to some crazy diets and even bought those “magical pills” that promise to eliminate all the fat you consume. Terrible, right? I would lose a few pounds and then gain all the weight back. So after a few diets, I was able to go back to my normal weight until my college graduation in May of 2013.
THE CHANGE – JulY/2013
I got engaged in July of 2010, and our wedding was scheduled for December of 2013. So in July of 2013, something clicked, and I decided to start my own pre-wedding “project” with the goal to lose a few pounds for the big day!
At that time I had “retired” from volleyball and had not exercised for 7 months. So I got a gym membership, started working out 6 days per week (weight training combined with HIIT workouts) and decided to COMPLETELY change my eating habits (the hardest part for me). I started using more herbs and natural seasonings to add flavor to my food, reduced the amount of sweet/candy, introduced more complex carbs and fruits to my meals, and dark chocolate became my new best friend!
It was not easy, but I slowly started to get used to my new lifestyle. By beginning of November I had already lost a few pounds, was looking exactly how I wanted and more than that, I had COMPLETELY CHANGED MY LIFESTYLE. When I arrived in Brazil for the wedding, I was a totally different person that even my family couldn’t believe how much I had changed. I felt more energized, and eating healthy foods was not a sacrifice anymore!
INSTAGRAM and BLOG – NOV/2014
After the wedding, I started working at an International Bank in Brazil and continued living my healthy lifestyle. I would workout early in the morning before work around 6:00 AM, and was always trying to create healthy recipes in my spare time (I love cooking). My coworkers started asking for my recipes and workout tips and with the support of my husband, I created my blog in November of 2014 called “Be Healthy Blog”. Before I knew I was influencing and helping people all over Brazil to live a healthier lifestyle! The years went by, my husband and I decided to come back to the US., and I changed my Blog and Instagram to SheinaFernandes.com .
MY WHY – 2018
Even though my Instagram has also become a “job” (THANKS to you’ll), my GOAL is and will always be, to influence people to live a healthy and balanced lifestyle, and to do all the things that make them HAPPY!
