ENERGY BALLS: bolinhas energéticas para turbinar seu treino

Olá meus amores, tudo bem?

Eu sei que faz tempo que não apareço por aqui na versão Português então por isso vim aqui compartilhar uma receitinha deliciosa que fiz semana passado e foi maior sucesso lá em casa!

Pra quem não sabe, as energy balls são literalmente “bolinhas de energia” e são super populares aqui nos EUA (tem em quase todos os cafés/restaurantes naturais). Elas são uma delícia e é uma ótima opção de pré-treino ou lanchinhos dependendo do seu plano alimentar!

Por gostar tanto resolvi inventar a minha própria receita de “energy ball” com os meus ingredientes favoritos. E já aviso que os amantes de pasta de amendoim vão adorar!!


ENERGY BALLS de pasta de amendoim e chocolate

Ingredientes

  • 60g de tâmaras (+- 9 unidades)
  • 6 col. de pasta de amendoim natural
  • 1 xic. de aveia em flocos
  • 1/4 xic. de farinha de linhaça
  • 1 scoop de whey de baunilha
  • 60g de chips de chocolate amargo (eu uso o 60% cacau)
  • 1 col. de sopa de mel

Modo de preparo: Triture as tâmaras, pasta de amendoim e o mel em um mixer e reserve. Aos poucos adicione os outros ingredientes e misture até formar uma massa homogênea. Leve ao refrigerador por 1 hora e forme pequenas “energy balls”. ** Rende 16 bolinhas.

Informação nutricional por “energy ball” : 110 calorias – 11.8g carbo – 5.8g gordura – 3.6g proteína – 5.7g de açúcar – 2.2g fibra.

HEALTHY and TAN skin at Bare Med Spa

Hello loves, how is your week going?

I really enjoyed the rainy weekend as I got to spend some quality time with my hubby. On Saturday we did the Factory Tour at the Roasterie in Kansas City downtown and made homemade pizza for dinner (LOVE “off meals”). Sunday morning we went to church, then after lunch we talked to our family from Brazil, and just relaxed the rest of the day!

Now changing subjects, as you all know, I am not very disciplined when it comes to skin care and just few months ago I had my first skin treatment at Bare Med Spa (the Hydrafacial treatment).

After doing the Hydrafacial, the Bare Med Spa esthetician recommend me the Dermaplane treatment and I have done it twice already. I absolutely LOVED the hairless feel and smoothness of my skin afterwards.

A little bit about the DERMAPLANE TREATMENT

Dermaplane is a procedure that removes the dead epidermal cells of your skin and all the “tiny” facial hairs as well.  The results are immediately: healthier looking and smoother skin. The procedure takes around 30 minutes and is totally PAINLESS. I know some of you think it is painful because of the blade used to scrap off the dead skin, however,  it is NOT.  At the Bare Med Spa, the Dermaplane procedure is a very relaxing experience as they finish up the section with a very refreshing moisturizing mask combined with a facial steam to hydrate the new facial skin.


SPRAY TAN 

Also, as probably saw on my Instagram,  I recently did my first Spray Tan EVER at Bare Med Spa. At the first section I asked her to go easy on the color because I was honestly a little afraid to turn orange lol. However, like always, they did an AWESOME job. I loved my skin color afterwards and how natural it looked. And besides, it is much healthier to our skin than doing tanning beds. And of course I got a little addicted to it and went for one more spray tan section a week later. On my second time I asked Lindsey make me look tanner and she did awesome, I literally felt I was in Brazil and had just came back from the beach! It makes me so excited for summer 🙂

LOW CARB PANCAKE

Good morning! How are you?

Hope you had a great Easter!

I loved my Sunday… I got to spend some quality time with my American family and friends, we had a delicious “country style” lunch with a homemade cheesecake and easter cupcakes for dessert, played outside games, died eggs, and enjoyed the beautiful and peaceful day out in the country!

I do believe that being healthy is living with BALANCE and that we need to treat ourselves sometimes WITHOUT NEUROSES… I enjoyed every bit of that homemade cheesecake with a strong and warn Brazilian coffee, which was worth every single calorie!!

And to help us to get back to our healthy eating routine, today I am going to share with you a LOW CARB pancake recipe for a delicious breakfast or even snack.


LOW CARB PANCAKE

Ingredients:

  • 3 eggs whites
  • 10g flaxseeds flour
  • cinnamon to taste
  • Coconut oil
  • Natural peanut butter
  • Red berries or any fruit of your preference

First, whisk the egg whites until they become frothy. Now add the flaxseed flour and cinnamon, and whisk the egg whites for few more seconds. Transfer the mixture to an coconut sprayed skillet in medium heat and flip the pancake until both sides turn to a golden color. Lastly, spread peanut butter on the pancake and top it with the red berries.

TIP: serve it warm and enjoy with a freshly brewed cup of coffee!

START TODAY: 5 tips for a healthier life

Morning everyone!

Hope you are having a wonderful week and are enjoying the warmer days as we get closer to summer time!

Today I want to share a few easy tips for you to start living a healthier life.

These are 5 steps that I personally experienced when I decided to lose weight prior to my weeding in 2013 and that definitely helped me change my lifestyle!

Before we go on with the tips, I am going to talk a little bit about me. Volleyball was my true love, I have been playing it since when I was 8-years-old until I graduated from college in 2013, I had a very active life but a terrible eating habit, which included cookies, chocolate, pop, fast food, and pizza almost everyday. However, because of my height, I never realized I was overweight. You know those “fake skinny” people? Sometimes they look skinny externally but carry a terrible body composition, well that was me!

During my college years, I was lucky enough to meet the love of my life. We got engaged all the way back in 2010, and in June of 2013, I decided that I wanted to lose weight for the wedding (that happened in December of the same year). My journey wasn’t easy but was definitely worth it.  After 6 months, I did not just lose weights for the big day but I completely changed my lifestyle. I started to change somethings and whole wheat foods, dark chocolate, vegetables and sugarless coffee were not longer a sacrifice and exercising became my good addiction! Today I am glad and happy to say that is not only about losing weight, but is about living healthier and living well!


5 TIPS FOR A HEALTHIER LIFE

1 – Set attainable goals: I think this is the most important one. Setting up a goal and having the desire to change is the very first step. Grab a paper (it can be your calendar, your agenda, or any peace of paper),  write down your desires, and set a deadline by when you want to achieve them.  I love writing down my goals so I cross them out whenever I reach them (just like when we check mark our grocery shop list). Sometimes also like to set goals for the week, short goals can be attained faster and help us to keep pushing for the long-term goals.

2- Make a action plan: After you set your goals, it is time to create a action plan. Knowing all the steps you need to follow to successfully reach your goals, is the key. For example, all the way back in 2013, my initial action plan was to find time to go workout at least 5 times a week and to make healthier eating choices.

3 – Slowly make healthier choices: As I told you, my eating habits were very unhealthy and this was definitely the hardest part for me. Just like baby steps, I started by making few small changes. First I started trying dark chocolate and would go up on the cocoa % every week. So you know,  today one of my favorites chocolates are the 90% cocoa. I gave up on pop and white flour and started to eat whole wheat breads, bagels, and pasta,  brown rice, quinoa and rice cakes. Traded the whole milk for skim milk or almond milk and also started to eat natural peanut butter. My advice for you is: DO NOT be radical. Instead, start making small substitutions. Strict diets are painful and do not last long.

Exercise: Now that you have made changes in your eating habits, it is time to burn all those healthy calories. Because after all the math is simple, we need to burn more calories than what we consume per day to be able lose weight. And to make this journey easier my advice is for you to find for a exercise you like and enjoy doing it. When going to the gym or studio becomes an obligation, then it is time to change. I personally like going to classes like spinning, cycling, etc. Working out with other people who are striving the same goals, helps to keep me motivated.

Cook and plan your meals: Cooking your own food and organizing your meals is the key and will definitely help you to keep focusing on your diet. Plan your days ahead of time and make sure you always have a healthy snack with you whenever you go so you don’t end up eating fast junk food. Another tip is to bring your lunch box to work. Besides the fact you are going to be eating a healthy food, you will also be saving lots of money ( I used to take my lunch to work all the time and I loved).

I have always loved cooking, but if you don’t, here is my advice: get in the kitchen, try new recipes, and get creative. I bet you will be surprised of how many delicious and healthy food you can make!

2 EGG RECIPES that will brighten up your morning

Good morning!

I hope you are all having a wonderful week…

My week has been great and going at full swing.  Spring break is over and now I am back to my  master’s classes. Today I want to share these two recipes that I love and are so easy to make! I don’t know about you guys, but I like to change it up from time to time, I get tired of having scrambled eggs almost everyday so I tried these recipes in the past few weeks.

They are delicious, a healthier choice and can be made in no time! What else do we need, right?


BAKED SCRAMBLED EGGS

Ingredients:

  • 5 egg whites
  • 5 eggs
  • 1/4 cup skim milk
  • 2 slices 97% fat free Canadian bacon (chopped)
  • 1 cup baby spinach
  • chopped bell peppers (optional)
  • 1/2 tomato (chopped)
  • 1/2 onion (chopped)
  • 1/2 cup low fat sherred cheese

In a medium bow, beat the eggs, egg whites and skim milk, when done set aside. Add the remaining ingredients, mix it well and transfer to a coconut oil greased pan. Place the pan in a preheated oven at 400F for around 20min and ENJOY. TIP:  It can be served as breakfast with fruits and toast or even as lunch/dinner with a side o salad.

EGG and SPINACH BREAKFAST WRAP

Ingredients:

  • 1 whole wheat tortilla wrap
  • 2 boiled egg whites (chopped)
  • 1 boiled egg (chopped)
  • 2 tbsp cottage cheese
  • Baby spinach to taste
  • Pink salt to season

In a bowl mix the egg, egg whites, cottage cheese and salt until it turns to a thick paste. Now, warm up the tortilla wrap in the microwave or on the stove-top, top it with the egg paste and add the spinach. Roll it tightly and ENJOY!

CRYOTHERAPY at Bare Med Spa: Reduces muscle sorenesses and speeds up recovery

Hello hello!

Hope you are having a great week and enjoyed the snow days we had in KC. This weather is just crazy! But I think the cold season is over and I am so excited for a REAL Summer! Aren’t you?

But anyway, today I want to share with you about my first section of Cryotherapy at Bare Med Spa last week. I had never heard about it before while living in Brazil, so when I saw that they offered it at Bare Med Spa I was really excited to freeze… haha!

I know some of you are probably thinking… But what is Cryotherapy?

Cryotherapy Treatment 

Cryotherapy is a treatment that you basically go inside of a big freezer for 2 to 3 min. where they use liquid nitrogen sprayed into the air to bring the temperature down (the duration of each section depends on your body resistance). This treatment is very common among professional athletes and people who have high muscle impact because of the fast and effective results it offers.

Some benefits of the Cryotherapy Treatment:

  • It reduces muscle pain and soreness
  • Speeds up recovery
  • Help to improve joints function
  • Increase the collagen production
  • Helps to reduce cellulite 
  • Can burn up to 800 depending of the time and body metabolism

How does it work?

First, Tracy asked me to take off my clothes and wear a robe. Then I wore gloves, socks up to my knees and a special shoe. After I was properly dressed, I went inside of the big tube leaving my head out of the icy area, took the robe off and literally FROZE for 3 minutes. So for you to have an idea, my skin temperature was around 32 F after I was done.

I need to say that the short freeze was SUPER WORTH IT. My muscles felt so relaxed afterwards and to be honest, it is NOT bad at all. It goes by really fast and when you start to feel the “ice burn”, it is time to step off the tube. So, don’t be scared… The Bare Med staff are super nice and they will always make sure you feel as more comfortable as possible.

I sure wish I had that years ago when I played college volleyball. Back then, we had to stay more than 10 minutes in the ice bath after EVERY practice during preseason, NOT FUN.. hahaha!

TORRADA DE ESPINAFRE, AVOCADO e OVO POCHÉ

Bom diaaaa! Finalmente sexta-feira né?

Como foi a semana? Eu estava bem ocupada terminando o projeto pra minha aula de contabilidade do MBA. Mas a boa notícia é que a primeira aula já terminou e agora eu tenho 1 semana off antes de começar a próxima!

Agora vamos ao que interessa… Final de semana passado fui pra cozinha e fiz essa TORRADA DE ESPINAFRE, AVOCADO e OVO POCHÉ. Ficou demais e por isso vim aqui compartilhar essa delicia com vocês!

TORRADA DE ESPINAFRE, AVOCADO e OVO POCHÉ

Ingredientes:

  • Sal rosa
  • Temperos a gosto
  • 1 ovo poché
  • 1 xic. de espinafre
  • 5 tomates cereja
  • 1/4 de avocado picado
  • 1 col. de café de vinagre de maçã
  • 1 col. de sopa de azeite de Oliva extra virgem
  • 1 fatia de pão integral ou sem glúten

Modo de preparo: Misture o espinafre, avocado, azeite de oliva, vinagre e os tomates em uma tigela e reserve (fica tipo uma saladona). Coloque a mistura em cima do pão integral tostado (fica mais gostoso crocante), coloque o ovo poché por cima, tempere a gosto e PRONTO!

OBS: quem estiver em uma dieta mais “low carbo” é só retirar a fatia de pão e comer como uma saladinha!

AVOCADO SPINACH TOAST

Hey guys! How is your week going?

Well, I have been busy wrapping up my last accounting assignments for my first MBA class. But the good news is the Spring One is over and now and I get to enjoy a week off before Spring II classes are back.

Now lets talk about some yummy and healthy food, shall we? Last weekend I tried this new AVOCADO SPINACH TOAST recipe. It turned amazing and I want to share every delicious piece with you!

The AVOCADO SPINACH TOAST  is very nutritive and can be served in almost any meal..PS: if you are in a low carb diet, you can turn it to a egg avocado salad and just eat without the bread!


AVOCADO SPINACH TOAST

Ingredients:

  • Pink salt
  • Pepper
  • 1 poached egg
  • 1 cup spinach
  • 5 grape tomatoes
  • 1/4 diced avocado
  • 1/2 apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tbsp Olive oil
  • 1 slice whole wheat bread or gluten free

Directions: Mix the spinach, tomatoes, avocado, vinegar and olive oil in a bowl. Put the salad on top of the toasted bread , place the poached egg on top, add dash of pink salt and pepper and ENJOY.

Today I want to share with you my WONDERFUL experience at Bare Med Spa at Nall Valley Shoppes where I did my first Hydrafacial treatment.

First, I need I don’t have a set routine when it comes skin care! I have never done anything besides sun screen and lotions and. And believe it or not, I have NEVER been to a Skin Spa before. First, I had an “Skin Consultation” where I explained my needs and concerns, they looked at my skin type, described all the different treatments and steps for each one, and  finally recommended the best treatment which was the Hydrafacial. I absolutely LOVED my first consultation! They were very professional, it took around 20 minutes and it definitely made me feel much more confident about the treatment.

The Hydrafacial  is a very gentle process. It is very “refreshing”, non-irritating, painless and very relaxing. It is a fast, efficient treatment that takes between 15-30 minutes depending of the skin type (my section last for almost 30 min.). And the best part, the results are shown immediately. My skin was glowing like a diamond after I left Bare Med Spa (who watched my #instastories on that day knows what I am talking about!).

HEALTHY APPLE MUFFINS

Hey guys, how are you doing?

I am just super excited that is getting warmer in KC and we can enjoy being outside 🙂 

But anyway, the weekend is coming up and all the temptations for us to get off our diets  are coming too! So how about making some healthy and delicious muffins so you don’t fall into the temptation of junk food and still eat a sweet?

Last weekend I made these muffins and I want to share it with you because they were total SUCESS.

HEALTHY APPLE MUFFINS

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups oats flour
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup coconut oil
  • 4 eggs •2 tbsp peanut butter
  • 1 cup almond milk
  • 1 peeled chopped apple
  • 1 tbsp cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp baking powder

Directions: Mix the flour, cinnamon and sugar and set aside. Gradually add the oil, peanut butter, eggs, almond milk and mix it until smooth. Now add the chopped apple, mix a little more and finally add the baking powder. Bake the muffins in a preheated oven at 410°F for around 15 minutes.

OPTIONAL: For the muffin’s topping I used 1/2 chopped peeled apple, cinnamon to taste, coconut oil (just enough to brown the apples) and a 1/2 cup water (it is suppose to look like a “apple jam”). It definitely makes the muffins taste even better.
